the 5.2 is a limited engine as far as boring it out and on the stroke of it,the 5.9 is a much better engine for horse power and rpm gains, and you can produce a lot more power from a 5.9 than you ever can with a 5.2, both were really good engines though ,its just the the 5.2 has to many limitations on what you can do to it,if you want speed and power and good overall performance go with a good 5.9,good luck with it.

The 5.2 is the old flag ship 318 motor that's been around for ever it seems. The 5.9 or 360, is the same except it is a more biffed up version of the 5.2 and used in mostly pickups and big vans and police cars for heavy duty. The 5.9 is in a league of it's own. It is a duel over head cam engine built to some what resemble the old hemispherical (Hemi) engine that was burning the roads up in the late 60's. Any hotter engine by Chrysler would be the V10 Viper.

I have a v8 5.9L magnum R/T in my dakota... and yeah it has a huge amount of torque and power. I take chevy s10/s ram 1500's and a lot of rice burners. Plus I can tow a lot. Its the same motor they put in the ram 1500s its a great motor love it.

the 5.2 318 was the basis used in the creation of the 3.9 v6,and the 5.9 v8. the v6 is a 318 with two cylinders lopped off,and everything related shortened. the 5.9 is an overbored (.030 ) 318. the 5.9 will produce more power than the 5.2 because of the larger cylinder diameter, and slightly more stronger ( heavier ) internal components used. in stock form the 5.9 will still out pace comparable offerings from ford and chevy, thanks to its slightly larger displacement.the 5.9 will accept,as will the 5.2 a vast array of "go fast" upgrades the only real question is just how fast you want to go will determine which engine to start with

That one guy saying hes a Chrysler tech is frightening. The 5.9 is not a Dual (thats the way you spell it btw) overhead cam, it is overhead Valve pushrod engine, simple as they come. The 8.0l V10 Viper engine is in the same family (LA).

Just a little more power and torque with the bigger engine. Less gas mileage as well as you would expect.

the 5.9l v8 is definatly stronger but my friend has it in his truck and he's breaking down all the time and my antique van 5.2l v8 is still running strong for over 25 yrs

5.9 = more power and torque over the 5.2.

Acceleration will be better, it can tow and haul more, too.
