The 6 cylinder models of the Challenger, Camaro and Mustang for that matter probably do pretty well. The V-8 powered cars aren't intended for fuel economy. It's the same way with a Charger.

The Dodge Challenger with the 3.6L V6 engine gets up to 27 hwy mpg without sacrificing an ounce of power, torque, or heritage because it has Dual Variable Value Timing and Fuel saver technology. The vehicle gets 18 mpg in the city.

The Dodge Challenger with the 5.7L HEMIĀ® V8 fuel economy is 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on hwy. The 5.7L HEMIĀ® V8 with Fuel Saver Technology and an available five-speed automatic transmission automatically switches from eight cylinders to four cylinders for greater fuel efficiency during cruising.

This would be the same for the Dodge Charger as well.

My 2009 R/T (5.7L) with the 6 speed has consistently averaged over 25mpg and on long highway drives gets over 27mpg. City driving pulls down my overall to about 23. I drive mostly highway miles in the Pacific Northwest (hills/mountains). Not a "Hyper Miler, I pass the slow cars, love the on-ramp, but I am not the fastest on the road and I'm happy to let others locate the speed traps. Drive reasonable, your mileage will show it.

Our Subaru does not get significantly better mmileageand the R/T is MUCH more comfortable to drive, easily holds 4 adults AND reasonable cargo.

Model for Model, the Charger is heavier and will do a little worse for MPG. The Camaro is lighter in comparable models, but good luck with those back seat passengers.

The new challengers get good highway fuel economy, no matter which engine.

None of them are going to be great on fuel , but if you have the small engine and drive civilized, you should be OK.

Muscle cars take too much fuel. You don't have too stop every day for gas but it will cost you $50 per week or every 3 days, depends where you go,.
