How do I find out what model transmission fits in my Dodge Dakota?

I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota with 4 wheel drive. How do I find out what model transmission fits with it and what year Dakota's are interchangeable?

Stop by your local Dodge dealership, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, salvage yard or transmission shop and ask.



I THINK there are two different transmissions for V6 and V8, not sure about that though. The V6 uses a 42RE I BELIEVE and the V8 a different one.
